Which Copperfield Models This Applies To

Newer Copperfield Pro-Flex and Chim-Flex lines have different collar and connector geometries. Check the stamped label near the top of the liner or the installation tag left by the original sweep. Signs Your Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing

• Spalling terra cotta in the firebox. If you’re sweeping out gritty orange shards, your original clay liner is shedding its interior surface. The Copperfield liner was installed to contain those fragments, but once the clay behind it keeps deteriorating, the liner takes stress it wasn’t designed for.
• Smoke odor in upstairs bedrooms. A compromised Copperfield liner lets combustion gases escape through gaps or corrosion points. In Bridgewater’s older colonials with stacked flues, that smoke finds the path of least resistance into second-floor rooms.
• White efflorescence on the exterior brick. Moisture is getting past the liner and leaching salts through the masonry. The liner’s either cracked or the top seal has failed, letting condensation weep down between the liner and clay tile.
• Draft that worsens after rain. Water entering a deteriorated liner cools the flue gases, killing updraft. Copperfield liners with compromised top terminations or crown seals are especially prone to this in New Jersey’s freeze-thaw cycles.
• Visible rust streaks at the cleanout door. If you have a stainless Copperfield liner, rust means you’re looking at a lower-grade alloy that was sold as 316 stainless. We’ve found 304-grade liners mislabeled in some 2000s-era Bridgewater installations. They fail faster in acidic condensate.
